Amazon plans to deliver a million electric cargo bikes to the new London micro-mobility hub each year.

In the upcoming months, micro-mobility centers will launch in other parts of the UK.

With the help of Amazon, the London Borough of Hackney has a new micro-mobility center. According to the largest online retailer, it will lead to almost a million deliveries each year being made by e-cargo bikes and walkers.

In the UK, Amazon currently has over a thousand electric delivery vehicles carrying over 45 million goods annually. Additionally, it recently bought five all-electric HGVs, and another four are on the way.

By 2030, the company hopes to have 50% of its deliveries net carbon-free.

However, the Hackney hub will be home to Amazon's first fleet of e-cargo bikes in the UK, so it's actually moving really slowly.

Many different types of light electric vehicles have been tested by companies including UPS, DPD, FedEx, and Royal Mail, and the majority of them are currently used to some extent in day-to-day operations. Faster than vans, electric freight bikes deliver.

The Amazon e-cargo bikes, which are actually pedal-assisted four-wheelers capable of 25 km/h, will reportedly be operated by a number of partner companies rather than by Amazon directly, according to The Guardian. In the upcoming months, more e-cargo bike delivery hubs are anticipated to open in the UK.

Mete Coban, cabinet member of environment and transportation for Hackney Council, commented on the news, saying, "If we're to get net zero, tackling transport emissions is crucial. We're thrilled to have collaborated with Amazon to encourage them to remove conventional vehicles off the road in favor of e-cargo bikes. As a result, emissions will be reduced and the quality of the air for residents of Hackney and beyond will improve.

To replace some of its diesel trucks, Amazon purchased its first electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in the UK from manufacturer DAF.

John Boumphrey, Amazon's UK Country Manager said"In the coming months, our new e-cargo bikes, walkers, and expanding fleet of electric vehicle deliveries will let us make more zero-emission customer deliveries across London and the UK than ever before.

At the same time, he added"Doubling the number of on-site solar projects at our locations around the UK further underlines our aim to power our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025 and is an important milestone in our quest to achieve net-zero carbon by 2040."
