Recently, Halfords is encouraging passengers to commute by electric bikes, with an offer of a free e-bike loan, while the rail strikes are impacting services (21, 23 and 25 June).
Following unsuccessful discussions over wages and redundancies, the RMT union declared strike action last week.
Only around half of Britain's rail networks will be open on June 21, 23, and 25, according to Network Rail, with only about 20% of trains running.
Halfords announced in January that any train passenger with a valid season ticket will be able to ride one of their e-bikes during the Omicron wave of coronavirus-related rail disruption.
In reaction to the strikes, the shop has made a similar step.
The e-bikes will be offered across all of Halford's 404 stores. However, a valid and current season ticket (or the equivalent weekly or daily ticket) covering the seven-day borrowing term is necessary. Furthermore, the offer is contingent on available trial e-bike stock, which is limited.
Commuters may use the Halfords e-bike trial finder (opens in new tab) to see if their local shop provides trial e-bikes by entering their postcode. They should next phone or visit the store to see whether a bike is available and to make a reservation.
"Millions of commuters will be inconvenienced next week, so we're stepping up to offer our trial e-bikes to rail commuters during the disruption, and making them available to loan from all 404 Halfords stores nationwide on a first come, first served basis," said Paul Tomlinson, Halfords Cycling Director.
The terms of applying for a free e-bike loan include the following:
1. Rail commuters must show a valid and in-date season ticket, or the equivalent weekly or daily tickets, covering the seven-day loan period.
2. Ebikes will be provided on a first come first served basis, subject to a trial ebike being available and confirmed by their local store.
3. Customers must pay a refundable £101 deposit, provide two forms of ID, and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the Ebike trial.
Commuters may use the Halfords e-bike trial locator to discover whether their local shop has any trial e-bikes available.
After that, you'll need to contact or go to the shop to check availability and make a reservation.
A £101 refundable deposit, two forms of identification, and a valid and current season ticket, or comparable weekly or daily tickets, covering the seven-day borrowing duration will be required.
